About the Department
Circulation/Reserves is home to the Reserves Collection of books and photocopied articles, and the Sanborn Maps of the local Brooklyn area. All circulating books and picture files are checked-in and checked-out at the Circulation Desk.
AV materials should be checked in and out from the Multi-Media Center on the lower level, and slides should be checked in and out from the Visual Resources Center on the 3rd floor. AV materials and slides should never be placed in the outside Drop Box or in the drop slot at the Circulation Desk.
Sanborn Maps
The unbound current Brooklyn and Manhattan Sanborn maps are kept at the Circulation Desk as reserves. You must have a valid Pratt ID to borrow these maps. Up to 2 sheets may be borrowed at a time for a maximum of 2 hours. You must request maps by plate number(s) . Indexes for both Brooklyn and Manhattan maps are kept at the Reference Desk. Maps may be renewed if there is no demand for them, but may not leave the Library. All maps must be returned to a Circulation clerk - not in the drop box - or you may risk accruing late fees. Late fees are $2.00 per hour or any portion thereof.
Historical Sanborn maps of Brooklyn are kept in the atlas cases in the 1st floor West Reading Room and Stacks. These maps do not circulate and may not leave the Library.

Course Reserves
All reserve materials must be offically checked-out even if they are only needed briefly for photocopying. You must have a valid Pratt ID, and have registered with the Library to borrow reserve materials.
Students must request books by call number and articles by professor name. Call numbers can be obtained by searching reserves in PrattCat. Up to 2 reserve items may be borrowed at a time for a maximum of 2 hours, and may be renewed if there is no demand for them. Reserve materials may not leave the Library and must be returned to a Circulation clerk - not in the drop box - or you may risk accruing late fees. Fines are $2.00 per hour or a portion thereof. Reserve items cannot be placed on hold. Please click here to learn how to search for items on reserve.
Borrowing Books
Some books at the Library do not circulate. Books labeled "Reference" or stamped "Does Not Circulate" may not be removed from the Library. Books from "Special Collections" must be retrieved for you by a librarian in the Reference Department, not at the Circulation Desk. Special Collections items may not be removed from the Library.
For detailed information on borrowing books that circulate outside the Library, see the Borrowing & Renewing page under Library Services.
