Course Reserves

Please consider...

Pratt faculty may place books and articles on reserve at any time, but should be aware of the following:

In Brooklyn to place items
on reserve, please contact:

When to Place Requests. To ensure reserve materials are available to your students in a timely manner, the Library strongly recommends that you submit your requests at the end of the previous semester.

Book Requests. Please limit the number of books to be placed on reserve to fifteen (15) items or less per course. If your reserve requests exceed these numbers, please speak to the Director of Reader Services to explore ways the Library can help in making the items available to your students.

Photocopy Requests. Photocopies are placed in boxes organized by faculty name. Please limit the number of photocopies to be placed on reserve to no more than what will fill up two of the Library's reserve boxes per course. If your photocopies exceed these limits, please speak to the Reserves Coordinator to explore ways the Library can assist in making the readings available to your students.

Books Not Owned By the Library. When requesting books to go on reserve that the Library does not own, please remember that recently published books are the fastest and easiest for the Library to acquire. Out of print books may take months for the Library to receive.

Personal Copies. The Library will put personal copies on reserve if we are unable to acquire a requested book. The Library cannot take responsibility for any damage done to personal copies placed on reserve.

Removing Reserves. Books and photocopies will be automatically removed from the reserve collection at the end of the semester. Photocopies and personal copies of books will be returned to you or your department.

Carrels. Three carrels on the 2nd floor of the library are available for graduate seminars. Please see the carrel policy for more information.
