Campus Computer Lab Information (Word Processing, etc.)
Pratt Institute has recognized the need of its student body to offer the newest technology and has several well-equipped computer labs to fit the needs of each individual and their major. Please visit the Computer Labs page on the main Pratt site for complete information.
Electronic Design Studio
The Electronic Design Studio Lab is located on the second floor of the Engineering Building and offers an assortment of computer services. The Lab offers 4 Mac and 3 PC classrooms each with 18 workstations. Two of the Mac labs offer dual-boot capabilities. Available applications allow students to create 2 and 3-dimensional work, create computer animation, edit digital video and produce DVD projects. Flatbed Scanners with surface up to 12x18 allow for reflective and transparency input.
Digital Output Center
The DOC Lab is a centralized output center for Color and Large Format printing located on the 2nd floor of the Engineering Building, and allows students to output their work in a Professional Color Managed Environment. The DOC works in concert with all the Academic Computing Labs to assure that students are successful in formatting and printing their projects from the simplest color laser output to very large prints for presentation up to 60 inches wide on a variety of medias including acetate and canvas. Recently, Four Professional Photo printers have been added allowing photo output up to 13″X19″on both Matte and Glossy stock. The DOC also offers workshop instruction to students to aid in the formatting of files for successful output. Friendly DOC staff is always available to assist students in properly formatting of files within the Lab workflow. Future plans include expansion of print capacity and exploration of more specialty print medias.
Micro Computing Center
The MCC lab is located on the 1st floor of the Machinery building and has four classrooms. The two Macintosh classrooms are equipped with various Apple computers running OSX. The two PC classrooms are equipped with Dell computers running Windows XP. Rendering farms for Maya, 3DMax etc. are also available. The applications in this lab offer students the ability to create a full gamut of communications design projects. The Academic Computing video editing suite is accessible here, featuring nine workstations equipped with Apple’s Final Cut. Black & White Laser output and color managed large format printing up to 36 inches wide is also available.
Foundation Media Lab
The Foundation Media Lab (FML) is located on the 3rd floor of the Main Building and offers 3 classrooms with 60 Macintosh workstations running OS X.
